TRADE: GWS shed McKenna for nearly nothing #AFLTrades

Patrick McKenna completes the set of GWS 2014 picks being shipped out of the club (Steele and Ahern are gone and Pickett and Marchbank should go too). Like most of the others he looks like going at bargain rates.

He’s yet to debut, and is valued on a discount of original his pick of 23. The factoid we are obligated to mention is that he was a former junior cricketer. More relevantly he is a mid-sized forward (although he has been shifted around a bit in the NEAFL) who looks like cheap depth for the Demons. At this stage McKenna probably doesn’t come into the best-22 equation in a forward line containing Hogan, Watts, Weideman and Garlett. However, if the Demons do lack in one area now it is mid sized forwards.

The trade nets GWS a tiny upgrade on Academy points and presumably disposes of a player who is surplus to requirements.

Verdict: Very clear win for Melbourne. Or more likely Casey.
